About 2000 years ago, a brilliant mathematician worked out that if you dyed the warp you could create a pattern when you put in the weft yarn. Our Ikats are the real deal made by a co-operative in India using their ancient techniques. We accept the quirky changes in design and yarn as part of its inherent beauty. No printed Polly's here.
Please note: Ikat yarns are village dyed yarn and are very sensitive to strong sunlight and will fade if unprotected. Please keep ikats away from direct light through windows or lined if made into curtains or blinds.
"I love Ikats and was thrilled when we found our current weavers, who live in Andraha Pradesh, in India. The Ikat warp has the design dyed into it before it is woven. It requires great skill and afterwards produces some strange weaving irregularities - all part of the charm." - Chrissie Jeffery
